VALDOSTA, Ga. - Three Blazer golfers were honored at the conclusion of the 2018 season by coaches throughout the Gulf South Conference, as Matt Anderson and Davis Roche were each named All-GSC and newcomer Wesley Hanson was named the 2018 GSC Freshman of the Year.

On the heels of tremendous individual seasons, Anderson and Roche were named First and Second Team honorees, respectively, by the league office. The recognition for Anderson marked his second straight year on the list of honorees, and Roche's appearance marked the first of his career. Both received individual invites to the NCAA South Regional Tournament, where Anderson narrowly missed a spot in the national tournament after a final round of 68 in Conover, N.C. placed the junior 21st on the individual leaderboard. In addition, Roche claimed a 64th place finish among the field of the South Region's 108 top golfers.

At the end of the regular season, Anderson ranked 45th in the nation with an average of 72.11 on the year. Each of his 27 rounds counted towards Valdosta State's tournament appearances throughout the season, he finished in the top 30 in eight of nine events, and he placed among the top 15 in five different tournaments. His top performance came at the Argonaut Cup in Pensacola, Fla., where he shot 3-under 213 for a 12th place finish out of 77 participants. Moreover, he performed at par or better in 15 of his 27 rounds.

Roche ranked 63rd nationally with a scoring average of 72.81 and finished among the top 31 six times on the year. The Jacksonville, Fla. native placed among the top 15 in three tournaments, and his top performance came at the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational, where he shot under par in all three rounds for an overall score of 5-under 211 and a 7th place finish out of 90 participants. Beyond those numbers, he posted seven subpar rounds, and the Valdosta State team used each of his 27 round scores throughout the 2017-18 season. He closed out his senior season with 12 rounds of play at par or better.

Hanson claimed Freshman of the Year honors after competing in seven events, including every event during the spring portion of the 2017-18 schedule. He helped the Blazers claim a third place finish in the GSC Championship Tournament and averaged a 76.28 on the season, with 17 of his 21 rounds counting toward the team score on the year. Furthermore, he ranked 28th at the GSC Championship Tournament. His efforts in February earned him GSC Freshman of the Month in the early part of the spring schedule.
