VALDOSTA, Ga. – Postseason awards continued to roll in this week, as Taylor Hartenbach and Jessica Mohl earned Division II Collegiate Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) honors on Monday. In addition, Mohl was named the D2CCA South Region Player of the Year.
Mohl was the lone First Team honoree in a poll taken by Sports Information Directors throughout the South Region, while senior Hartenbach added to her postseason honors with Second Team recognition.
Serving as VSU's leadoff hitter, the senior campaign for Mohl was a memorable one. Valdosta State's third baseman led the GSC in runs scored (59), hits (80), doubles (19), and triples (7). Furthermore, she ranks among the top five players in the league in nearly every other major offensive stat category, including batting average (.452, 2nd), slugging percentage (.791, 2nd), on base percentage (.533, 2nd), RBI's (47, 5th), at bats (177, 3rd), and stolen bases (32, 3rd).
Hartenbach, who began her career at VSU as a left-handed slap hitter, completed her transformation into a bonafide slugger by the time her career came to its conclusion. Hitting second in the VSU lineup this season, she ranked 10th in the league in slugging percentage at .688. Her 17 doubles have placed her third in the GSC, and her 12 homers placed her sixth among every other player in the conference. The All-Region honor for Hartenbach marks her second in as many years.
As a First Team selection, Mohl will be placed on the ballot for D2CCA All-American. The 2018 All-American honorees will be announced in the days to come.
