Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
Robby Brown

Having just completed his first year as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for Valdosta State, Robby Brown wasted little time in proving to the Blazer faithful while he is considered one of the up and coming offensive minds in the game of football.

Brown's leadership on the offensive side of the ball was evidenced by the fact that VSU averaged 380.8 yards per game during his initial season, its most since averaging a school-record 510.3 yards per outing during the 2001 season. In fact, the 418.4 yards per game, which ranked 25th nationally on the year, was the seventh-best total in school history. The Blazers also ranked among the national leaders in passing yards, finishing 12th with 286.4 yards per game, the seventh-highest total in the history of the program. Not all of the success came through the air as Valdosta State rushed for 23 touchdowns on the year, the fifth-most in school history.

The accolades didn't stop on a team level as Brown also assisted quarterback Kellen Lewis to one of the best seasons ever by a Blazer signal caller. Lewis completed 232-of-372 passes on the season, a 62.4 completion rate, for 2,514 yards and 14 touchdowns. Lewis also rushed for a team-high 485 yards and nine scores while starting all 10 games on the season. As a group, Brown helped the Valdosta State quarterbacks to a 125.88 efficiency rating as the group completed 258-of-420 passes, or 61.4 percent of their attempts, for 2,864 yards and 17 touchdowns.

A pair of Brown's charges earned conference and national recognition during his initial season in the Red and Black, led by wide receiver Cedric Jones, who was first team All-Gulf South Conference while also earning All-Region honors. Jones became the GSC's all-time leader in career receptions during the season while finishing third in receiving yardage. Meanwhile, fellow wide receiver Gerald Ford was named second-team All-GSC and became just the fourth Blazer to earn conference Freshman of the Year honors.

Brown joined VSU after spending one season as the offensive coordinator at GSC-member Henderson State, where he led the Reddie offense to record-breaking numbers during the 2008 season. Twelve school records were set during Brown's one season with the school, including points per game and yards per game as the Reddies averaged 32.8 points and 448.1 yards per outing. The team finished the year ranked 18th nationally in total yards per game and third in passing yards, tallying 330.1 yards a game through the air.

Brown's ability to teach the game was evidenced in individual achievements as well as team success as he aided wide receiver Garret Manning in earning All-America honors. Manning finished the year ranked second nationally in receiving yards at 120.9 yards per contest while pulling in 76 receptions, including 10 for touchdowns, on the year. Additionally, Manning and fellow receiver Greg Godfrey, who caught 48 passes for 584 yards and six touchdowns, each received All-Gulf South Conference honors at the conclusion of the season. Quarterback Roch Charpentier also benefited from Brown's tutelage as he finished the year ranked sixth nationally in passing yards a game, as he averaged 315.6 yards a contest, and ninth in total offense, with 3,235 yards on the year.

Brown joined Henderson State after one season as the offensive coordinator at Southwest Baptist University. While at Southwest Baptist, the Blairsville, Ga. native led the school to 29 school records, six Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Conference marks and two national records. The Bearcats averaged 390.3 yards per game during Brown's one year with the club, including 317.0 through the air. Brown's offensive philosophy helped SBU's Nick Smart set an NCAA all-divisions record with 143 receptions during the season while three additional receivers each tallied at least 44 catches apiece. Quarterback Steven Gachette completed 61.2 of his passes on the season while passing for 2,953 yards and 15 touchdowns on the year.

Prior to Southwest Baptist, Brown learned the spread offense under Larry Blakeney at Division I Troy University, where he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant. Brown, who worked with the Trojan quarterbacks and wide receivers, helped Troy to the 2006 Sun Belt Conference championship and a spot in the R L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, where it defeated Rice 41-17.

Brown received a Masters in Sports Management from Troy in 2008 after earning a Bachelor's degree in History from Georgia Tech in 2004. Brown was a member of the Yellow Jacket football team during his days and played on a pair of bowl winning squads.

Brown, 27, is married the former Rachel Jones of Sumter, S.C.
