TRYOUT INFORMATION AND RELEASE FORM
Tryout Information:
- All dancers trying out must be accepted or applied w/pending acceptance to VSU
- Dancers need to wear black, red, or white dance wear to tryouts
- Hair needs to be pulled up and out of the face
- Jazz or ballet shoes are suggested, as well as socks since it’s a carpet surface
- Have all paperwork completed before arriving to tryouts
- A lunch break will be given, so prepare to leave for lunch or bring a lunch
- After the team is posted, a short team meeting will take place
Tryout Requirements:
- Double and Triple Pirouette
- Fouettes/Turns in Second
- Grand jete (right and left)
- Leap in second (right and left)
- Calypso (right and left)
- Turning disc (right only)
- Tilt jump (right and left)
- Kicks- front, side, and tilt (right and left)
- Extension holds (front leg hold, tilted leg hold right and left)
Tryout Format:
Dancers will be given 30 minutes to warm-up and stretch at the beginning of the tryout. The jazz and hip hop routines will be taught and an explanation of the skills execution. An hour and a half lunch break will be given and when the dancers return, the judging portion of the tryout will begin. They will perform the required skills first and then the routines in small groups. After all groups have performed and scores tabulated, the team will be posted and a short team meeting will happen immediately after posting.
**If you are unable to attend tryouts, you can submit a video tryout. You must email Head Coach Kelli Fields at kmhollan@valdosta.edu for video requirements.
Directions to Winnersville Elite
Follow I-75 to exit 18 and travel east to Valdosta. Turn right at the second traffic light onto Norman Drive. Continue on Norman Dr. and turn left at the fourth traffic light onto Business Parkway. Travel 0.2 miles and Winnersville Elite will be on the left.

Dance Team Profile
The Dance Team at Valdosta State Univesity is a High-Energy Dance Team that incorporates jazz dance technique with hip-hop, pom, and funk dance styles. The dance team consists of a maximum of 25 dancers. The regular season begins in August and ends in April with NDA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The VSU Dance Team entertains crowds and supports VSU athletics at all home football games, men's and women's home basketball games, university functions, public schools events and community events.
Program Requirements
Academic Standards and Policies
- All squad members must maintain full-time status (minimum of 12 hours) for both spring and fall semesters
- All members must maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average
- Any squad member who falls below the required GPA and/or the 12-hour student status will be removed from the team
Image and Attitude
- As a member of the Valdosta State University Dance Team, you are a representative of our university. Therefore, it is imperative that you conduct yourself in an appropriate manner at all times. This includes maintaining an enthusiastic attitude and projecting a positive image
- As a representative of VSU, you are to follow the student code of conduct regulations that are outline in the VSU student handbook
- If you are chosen as a member, there will be additional rules and information that you must adhere to, and deviation from these rules could result in dismissal from the team
