Lady Blazers Down UT-Martin 9-0

Valdosta State improves to 9-0

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State dropped just one set as the Lady Blazers defeated UT-Martin 9-0 in women's tennis action at the VSU Tennis Courts Friday morning.

VSU (4-0) claimed all three doubles points, two with little trouble as Dominique Rothlaender and Tina Trautmann defeated Belisa De Brito and Martie Wahl 8-1 at No. 1 while Natali Gumbrecht and Kristel de Groot downed Ernestine Koornhof and Alycia La Merie 8-0 at No. 3. VSU's Raphaelle Durante and Karine Redon built a 6-2 lead over Sara Leavy and Jodie Tiley at No. 2 before hanging on for a 9-8 (3) victory.

Gumbrecht opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Levy at No. 2 while Trautmann downed Tiley 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. Durante followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over De Brito at No. 3 and Sonya Haggstrom downed La Merle 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6. De Groot picked up the eighth point with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Koornhof at No. 5 while Rothlaender closed out the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Wahl at No. 1.

Valdosta State returns to action Sunday, March 8 when it travels to Savannah, Ga. to face Armstrong Atlantic at 1:00 p.m.
