Montevallo Game Notes

Blazers, Falcons play Sunday at 4:00 pm

Valdosta State plays its final road game in the first half of its Gulf South Conference schedule as the Blazers visit the Falcons of Montevallo.

The Blazers enter the game with a 15-3 record, including a 3-1 in GSC action after defeating West Alabama on Friday. UM is 10-10 on the season and 2-2 in league action.

The game was originally scheduled for Saturday evening, but was moved after a gas explosion on the West Alabama campus altered the weekend's schedule.

Known for his scoring and rebounding, Tyrone Curnell has proven that he can also share the ball as he is currently second on the Valdosta State squad with 48 assists. Only point guard Ricardo Lewis has more assists than Curnell, currently standing with 51,

Valdosta State swept the season series with Montevallo last season, the first two victories for VSU in the series under head coach Mike Helfer.

Valdosta State and Montevallo have previously met 29 times, with VSU claiming victory in 18 of those contests.

The VSU victory over West Alabama gave the Blazers their best start in four years under Helfer. Valdosta State's previous best 18-game recod under Helfer was 14-4 in 2006-07, which also featured its last trip to a NCAA Regional.
