VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State's threesome of returning juniors combined for 44 points in a game that was much closer than the six-point margin of victory.
Leschelle Matthews led the way with 21 points to lead all scorers while Michelle Thompson put in 13 and Tamika Booker scored 10 points and brought down 11 rebounds to help Valdosta State beat Nova Southeastern by a score of 65-59. With the win, the Lady Blazers move to 6-1 on the season.
Brittany Hudson scored 10 points to make it four players in double digits for the Lady Blazers on the night. Matthews filled up the stat sheet. In addition to 21 points, she brought down five boards, passed out three assists and stole the ball twice.
The game went back and forth much of the evening, but the Lady Blazers were able to outrebound Nova and score more points off turnovers, the fast break and second chance efforts.
For Nova Southeastern, Erin Zampell led the way with 20 points while Stephanie Sarosi chipped in 16 points, six rebounds and five blocks. Abbie Tepe led the team in rebounds with seven.
