Six Blazers Named to All-GSC Team

Hart Earns co-Freshman-of-the-Year

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Six Valdosta State Blazers were named to the All-Gulf South Conference football team, according to an announcement made by the league offices Thursday.

Two of the Blazers earned first-team honors, led by senior safety Sherard Reynolds, who earned the recognition for the third straight season, Reynolds, who is just one of 45 GSC players to earn first-team honors three times in their career, tallied 51 tackles during the 2008 regular season while picking off a team-high four passes. He returned one of the passes a school record 94 yards for a touchdown and also recovered two fumbles on the season.

Sophomore defensive tackle Demario Jones also earned first-team honors after tallying 28 tackles, including seven tackles for loss. He recovered two fumbles on the season and had one sack while registering three quarterback hurries.

The remaining four Blazers earned second-team honors, led by sophomore linebacker Larry Dean, who tallied a VSU-high 73 tackles during the regular season. He was joined by senior wide receiver Albert Dukes, who is second on the Blazers with 36 receptions while leading Valdosta State with eight touchdown catches. The final two Blazers came from the special teams unit as sophomore deep snapper Joey Farmer, who was perfect on all 95 special teams snaps this season, as well as freshman punter Jack Fulford, who was third in the GSC with a 41.5 yards per punt average during the regular season.

Blazer quarterback Chris Hart became just the fourth Valdosta State player to earn GSC Freshman-of-the-Year honors as he shared the award with Southern Arkansas running back Mark Johnson. Hart completed 123-of-215 passes during the season for 1,575 yards. He threw 18 touchdown passes against just five interceptions, with two of those interceptions coming on hail may passes at the end of the first half of two VSU games.
