VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Lady Blazers stepped up in a big way to keep their postseason hopes alive. Against West Alabama the team came out strong in the first set and continued it through the night to beat the Tigers, 25-22, 24-26, 25-19, 25-23, and move to 3-5 in conference play and 15-16 overall.
Friday night, fans saw contributions across the board for the Lady Blazers. Ruthie King led the team in kills with 15 and doubled up with 10 digs. Chelsea Logan was just behind with 13 kills and a team high 0.391 hitting percentage. Logan also led the team in blocks with seven assists and one solo to help the team notch 11 blocks on the night.
Laura Boos dove all night to rack up 14 digs. She was able to get some timely digs in the final set to keep the Lady Blazers on top. Irene Hannan put together 11 digs and Lea Weber passed for 45 assists. Kathrine Carter pitched in nine kills and five blocks.
For West Alabama, Gabriela Pedrosa hit for 16 kills while two others hit for double digit kills. Alexis McHale passed out 49 assists and Jacquie Swan and Allison Nail each had nine digs to lead the team.
Valdosta State will look to keep momentum on their side against Montevallo at 3 p.m. in the P.E. Complex on Saturday.
