VSU Runs In Disney Invitational

Men place 21st, women place 25th

Lake Buena Vista, Fla.- The Valdosta State University cross country team ran in the Disney Invitational this weekend and the men placed twenty-first and the women placed twenty-fifth.

The men's team finished in twenty-first out thirty-eight teams. The first finisher for the men's team was DJ Smith with a time of 28.09 in 116th out of 324 competitors. Chris Rice finished 133rd with a time of 28.34. Juan Tejada finished 152nd with a time of 28.57 closely followed by teammate Austin McDonald in 156th with of a time of 29.01 and Brandon Joyner in 157th with a time of 29.02. Steve Cary finished 167th with a time of 29.01. Finishing with a time of 29.27 in 167th was Corey Stejback followed by Alan McGough with a time of 30.17 in 199th place. Patrick McGough finished in 215th with a time of 30.48, and Daniel McCormick finished in 258yh with a time of 32.28. Rounding out the men's Blazer team was Marc Kaiser with a time of 33.24 in 270th place overall.

On the women's side the top female finisher was Jordanne Helton in 84th out of 353 runners with a time of 19.40. Nika Gibbs finished 165th with a time of 21:14. Alecia Beck finished 177th with a time of 21:35. Ashley Hiott finished in 230th running a time of 22:47. Rounding out the women's team was Andrea Smith in 325th with a time of 26:51. The team placed twenty-fifth out of forty-four teams. The team averaged 21:32.62 - a new season's best for the team.

Both teams return to action Friday, October 24 in the GSC Championship that will be held in Birmingham, Alabama.
