FLORENCE, Ala. - North Alabama, undefeated in conference play, received a surprise against Valdosta State Friday night. The Lions (15-5) fell to the Lady Blazers in the first set of the match, 25-23. VSU couldn't sustain the effort though, dropping the next three sets, 25-17, 25-12, 25-18, to fall to 1-4 in the Gulf South and 12-15 overall.
Irene Hannan led the Lady Blazers in kills with 11 on the night to go with nine digs. Brittney Borg led the team in digs with 13. Lea Weber passed for 33 assists and led the team in hitting percentage (.333) with two kills on six attacks. Chelsea Logan collected a solo block and two assists in the match.
The Lions had three with double digit kills, but Beyaca Martin led the team with 14. Jessica Hansen dug the ball 23 times while Alison Jacobs passed for 42 assists.
Valdosta State will look to rebound against Alabama-Huntsville at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
