Blazers Finish Third at GSC Championships
Witcher ties for second to lead VSU
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Valdosta State shot a final round 280 (-8) to finish third at the Gulf South Conference Championships held Tuesday at the par-72, 6,690-yard Hot Springs Country Club.
The Blazers finished the three-round tournament with a total of 877 ( 13), 21 strokes behind tournament winner West Florida who fired an 856 (-8). North Alabama was second with an 870 ( 6) while West Georgia shot an 887 ( 23) to finish fourth. Arkansass Tech finished fifth with an 890 ( 26) while Henderson State tallied a 31-over 895 to finish sixth. Delta State shot a 910 ( 44) to come home seventh, followed by Montevallo in eighth with a 923 ( 57), Ouachita Baptist (925 / 59) in ninth and Harding (927 / 61) 10th. Christian Brothers was 11th with a 64-over 930 and Southern Arkansas 12th with a 953 ( 87) while Arkansas-Monticello rounded out the field with a 1028 ( 164).
Blazer Brent Witcher tied for second in the tournament as he shot a 67 on Tuesday to finish with a three-round total of 213 (-3). Cole Willis tied for 11th with a two-over 218 after shooting a 68 in the final round while Nate Balanis tied for 18th with a 223 ( 7). Jason Flowers was five strokes behind with a 228 ( 12) to tie for 28th while Chad Smith tallied a 232 ( 16) to tie for 39th.
West Florida's Tobias Rosendahl claimed individual medalist honors with a 212 (-4)
Valdosta State returns to action Monday, May 5th when it begins play in the NCAA South Regional.
