Blazer Golf Fourth After First Day of NDNU Invitational

Brent Witcher leads tournament after two rounds

LIVERMORE, Calif. - The Valdosta State golf team shot a two-round total of 589 ( 13) to stand fourth out of 14 teams after the first day of competition at the NDNU Invitational Monday at the par-72, 6,956-yard Poppy Ridge Golf Course.

Brent Witcher paced the Blazers, shot an eight-under-par 136 to claim a two-stroke lead for individual medalist honors in the tournament. The junior was even par in the first round of the day before tallying a 64 (-8) in the second day to take control of the tournament.

Nate Balanis was tied for 20th after the first two rounds with a six-over 150 while Cole Willis was a shot behind and tied for 27th. Chad Smith shot a nine-over 153 to tie for 37th in the event and Jason Flowers tied for 41st with a 154 ( 10).

CSU-East Bay claiemd the tournament lead at the conclusion of the first two rounds with a three-over 579 while CSU-Stanislaus was second witha 583 ( 7). Sonoma State edged VSU by a stroke for third, with a 12-over 588 while Grand Canyon rounded out the top five with a 598 ( 22).

The tournament concludes Tuesday with a single round.
