Volleyball Concludes 2007 Season
Stephanie Kirrstetter hits over 400 kills
VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State volleyball team concluded the 2007 season with a win over Albany State on Monday night in the PE Complex, and gave Stephanie Kirrstetter over 400 kills in her sophomore season.
The Lady Blazers ended the year with a 10-25 overall record and a 0-12 Gulf South Conference mark. The 2007 roster consisted of five freshmen, two sophomores and three juniors.
Kirrstetter led all players with 407 kills, averaging 3.45 kills per game. She also had 396 digs, 42 blocks and a team high 41 aces. The sophomore had a season high 24 kills on August 31 and a season high 25 digs on September 15. She led the team with 17 double-doubles.
Second on the team in kills, Irene Hannan tallied 374 kills, averaging 2.99 kills per game. The freshman, who red-shirted last season, also had 37 aces, 404 digs, 61 blocks and had 11 double-doubles on the season. She had a season high 18 kills on September 11 and 23 digs on September 15.
Ruthie King led all newcomers with 362 kills. She started out the season at the right-side hitter position and then changed to the outside hitter position more than halfway through the season. King averaged 2.90 kills per game, 26 aces, 261 digs and 63 blocks. The freshman had 12 double-doubles and a season high 18 kills against Albany State.
Kathrine Carter had a season high 13 kills on October 26 and had 212 kills on the season with a 1.80 kills per game average. She had 21 aces and led the team in blocks with 110 total blocks and 31 solo blocks.
Freshman Arielle Parnell started in every game for the Lady Blazers this season, averaging 1.66 kills per game (207 total kills). She had 19 solo blocks and tallied 99 total blocks. Parnell had a season high 13 kills on October 1.
Emelia Saulter played in 93 games this year and had 27 kills while grabbing a team high 862 assists (9.27 assists per game). The freshman also had 173 digs and 22 aces. She had a season high 53 assists on September 15.
Niki Patriarca played in 61 games this year and grabbed 498 assists on the season (8.16 assists per game). The junior also had 14 aces, 92 digs and 15 total blocks. Niki had 53 assists on October 5.
Laura Boos transfered from Scotsdale Community College in Arizona and took the starting role as libero and had a team high 493 digs (3.94 digs per game). She also had 28 aces on the year while grabbing 25 double-figure dig games. She had a season high 29 digs on September 15.
Sophomore Brittney Borg played in 67 games in 2007 and had eight aces, and 85 digs (1.27 digs per game). Borg had a season high 12 digs on September 14.
Chelsea Proffitt had a season high 10 kills against West Alabama on November 3. The freshman had 23 kills on the season and five digs.
The Lady Blazers are coached by Sia Poyer who just finished his third season as head coach.
