VALDOSTA, Ga.- In their second to last Gulf South Conference match of the season, the Valdosta State volleyball team fell to the University of Montevallo in three games on Friday night in the PE Complex.
The Lady Blazers (9-24, 0-11)were searching for their first conference win of the season against UM (11-26, 4-7) who was just shy of making the GSC Tournament this year.

Game two was not much different as VSU trailed the entire game. VSU was down by as many as eight in the first half of the match before finally falling 30-13. Ruthie King had four kills in the game and the Lady Blazers had 11 hitting errors.
With a renewed spirit, VSU took a commanding 7-1 lead in game three that included two kills from Irene Hannan, Kirrstetter and an ace from Arielle Parnell. Their lead was not safe for long as the Falcons went on an offensive run, tying the game at 16. The rest of the game was a see-saw battle that could go either way. VSU was down by as many as four (26-22) after UM had two kills but came back to tie the game at 28 with a block assist from King and Kirrstetter. A kill by Montevallo's Katy Hendrick put the Falcons up one but a kill from King tied the game up at 29. The Montevallo offense was too much for Valdosta State to handle as UM took the next two points, winning the game 31-29.
Kirrstetter led the Lady Blazers with 12 kills and nine digs while King was right behind her with 11 kills and nine digs. Emelia Saulter had 19 assists while Hannan had eight kills.
