ORLANDO, Fla. - The Valdosta State golf team shot a two-over 290 at the par-72, 6,849 yard Panther Lake Course at the Orange County National Golf Club to finish 10th out of 21 teams at the Coker College Invitational Tuesday.
The Blazers finished the tournament at five-over-par with a 581 to finish 19 strokes behind tournament winner St. Edward's, which shot a 562. Florida Southern was second with a 567 (-9) while defending national champion Barry was third at 573 (-3). Nova Southeastern also shot under par, with a two-under 574, to finish fourth while Rollins and Columbus State tied for fifth with even pars 576. Armstrong Atlantic and Lander tied for seventh with a pair of 577's ( 1) and Georgia College and State was ninth with a 579 ( 3).
Cole Willis led Valdosta State, shooting a seven-under 137 to finish fourth, while Brent Witcher also finished in the top ten with a two-under 142 to tie for 10th. Joel Durrance completed the tournament tied for 77th at 152 ( 8) while Jason Flowers and Bobby Dyer were a stroke behind, tied for 81st at 153 ( 9).
Armstrong Atlantic's Chris Wolfe and St. Edward's Matt Smith tied for the individual title as each finished the tournament 10-under par at 134.
Valdosta State returns to action Monday, October 1 when it competes in the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational hosted by Columbus State.
