VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State Lady Blazers lost both of their matches on Friday at the St. Mary's Tournament in San Antonio, Texas against the University of Alaska-Anchorage and Rollins College.
The Seawolves (1-1) claimed a 30-18 victory in the first game before defeating the Lady Blazers (0-2) 30-27 in games two and three.
Nancy Marin led the attack for the Lady Blazers with 7 kills and a .353 hitting percentage while Bentley Knox hit .267 with 8 kills. Laura Lee Atkinson led the team with 9 kills and 8 digs.
Alaska-Anchorage's Paepaetele Poasa and Caitlin Grenier led all players with 7 and 8 kills respectively. Poasa also recorded a .143 hitting percentage, three aces and six digs.
In the second match of the day, The Tars' (2-0) offense was too much for the Lady Blazers to handle as they fell to Rollins 30-20, 30-20, 30-27.
Atkinson was once again a force at the net with 10 kills and a .214 hitting percentage while adding 8 digs. Knox recorded her first solo block of the season and a .200 hitting percentage.
The Tars' Stephanie Nicholas led her team with 13 kills and a .407 hitting percentage.
The Lady Blazers wrap up the St. Mary's Tournament on Saturday with matches against Colorado School of Mines at 1:30 p.m. and St. Mary's at 9 p.m. The first home match is on Thursday, August 31, at 6 p.m. as the Lady Blazers host the Ramada Limited Azalea Classic.
