North Alabama Game Notes

Blazers, Lions play Thursday at 8:00 p.m.

Today's Game: Valdosta State hosts the Lions of North Alabama in a nationally televised affair as VSU and UNA hook up on CBS College Sports. The Blazers enter the game with a 4-3 record, including a 4-2 mark in Gulf South Conference play after a 23-17 victory over Harding last week, while the Lions are 8-0 and 5-0 in league play, including a 34-24 victory over Delta State last Thursday. The game is scheduled for a 8:00 p.m. Eastern kickoff.

VSU averages 424.0 yards of total offense on the season while surrendering 342.0 yards per game. Quarterback Kellen Lewis leads the offense as he has completed 177-of-283 passes for 1,893 yards and nine touchdowns while also rushing for 283 yards and seven scores. Wide receiver Cedric Jones has caught 46 passes for 428 yards and two scores and linebacker Larry Dean leads the defense with 62 total tackles, including 7.5 for loss.

North Alabama is averaging 422.8 yards per game while surrendering 282.4 per outing. Quarterback Harrison Beck leads the Lion attack with 290.6 passing yards per game while three different receivers have caught at least 31 passes. Linebacker Michael Johnson leads the UNA defense with 64 tackles, including 8.0 for loss.

The 2009 season marks the 28th year of Valdosta State football while the North Alabama game will be the 318th game in school history. The Blazers have won 214 contests, lost 99 and tied four times, a winning percentage of .681.
