Blazers second at Indian Bayou Classic

VSU shots opening round 290

DESTIN, Fla. - Valdosta State shot a two-over 290 to stand second after the first day of play at the Indian Bayou Classic Monday.

Host North Alabama claimed the first round lead as it shot a three-under 285 while Clayton State was five strokes behind the Blazers in third at 295. Centenary and Shorter rounded out the top five with a tie for fourth at 296.

Chad Smith led the Blazers with a two-under 70 to tie for fifth overall followed by Will Repko with a one-under 71. Chesley Gunn shot a one-over 73 and Fredrick Hildebrand tallied a 76 while Wade Holland rounded out the VSU squad with a 79.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday with a single round of play.
