Women's Soccer Head Coach and Coordinator of Athletic Facilities
DESCRIPTION: Valdosta State University is adding women's soccer as an intercollegiate sport and will start play in the fall of 2011.
Head Coach and Coordinator of Athletic Facilities position will be filled in the winter/spring of 2010. Responsible for all aspects of developing and leading a NCAA Division II women's soccer program. This includes but is not limited to: recruitment of prospective student-athletes, student-athlete development, game preparation and strategy, supervision of staff, scheduling, purchasing of equipment and supplies, alumni and public relations, fundraising, adherence to NCAA and GSC rules and regulations and administrative duties. The head coach will also be responsible for working with the athletic and university staff to support the philosophy, goals and mission of both the university and its athletic program.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Recruiting: The head coach is responsible for the development of a comprehensive plan to identify, evaluate and recruit high quality student-athletes to Valdosta State University. This includes, but is not limited to phone contacts, in-person evaluations, home visits and the visits of student-athletes to campus. The head coach is responsible for adhering to all NCAA and GSC rules and regulations regarding recruiting and must maintain accurate records for all recruitment activities. - Team Preparation: The head coach is responsible for training, teaching and conditioning student-athletes in preparation for intercollegiate competition. The head coach will plan and supervise practices working with student-athletes on both team and individual skills, prepare game strategies and coach the team at competitions. The head coach will work in conjunction with the Strength and Conditioning and Athletic Training staff to develop a year around program of conditioning and injury protection. - Student-Athlete Development: The head coach is responsible for creating an atmosphere and culture that is a reflection of the mission of the university and athletic department. A positive experience for the student-athlete both on and off the field is a priority of the athletic department. This includes but is not limited to; monitoring of academic performance and activities that lead toward graduation. - Administrative Responsibilities: The head coach will be responsible for a wide variety of administrative tasks including but not limited to, scheduling of practices and outside competitions, annual reports, recruiting documentation, scheduling of officials and other paperwork needed for NCAA and GSC compliance. - Team Travel: The head coach is responsible for all aspects of team travel including lodging, meals and transportation. - Budget and Purchasing: The head coach will be responsible for administering a budget developed in collaboration with the Director of Athletics. This includes but is not limited to; purchasing , tracking and care of inventory of equipment/uniforms, supplies and services , monitoring travel expenses of team and coaches and planning student-athlete scholarship awards to stay within budget and NCAA allocation. The head coach is responsible for reconciliation of expenditures for all team travel, recruiting expenses and other women's soccer related expenses. - Community Service/Community Engagement: The head coach will be expected to participate in community service and community engagement activities both as an individual and with student-athletes/team. The head coach will also be expected to participate in campus activities to promote the women's soccer program and the athletic department. The head coach will be expected to be active and visible in the community and to represent the university, athletic department and the women's soccer program in a positive manner. - Fundraising: The head coach will be responsible for taking a lead role and being active in the raising of private gifts to be used to enhance the budget for women's soccer. - Organize Summer Camps: The head coach will organize summer camps to include hiring of staff, organizing instruction, organization of housing and meals and the promotion of camps. - Coordinate Athletic Facilities: This position will serve as the main athletic liaison with the university facility use office in regards to the scheduling of athletic venues for non-athletic uses and with the university's plant operations department regarding the upkeep of facilities. The position will also be responsible for the scheduling of the soccer complex for outside groups and the upkeep of the women's soccer facility.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree required with a masters degree preferred. A minimum of four (4) years of collegiate soccer coaching experience is required. Two years of collegiate graduate assistant soccer coaching experience can count for one-year of collegiate experience.
STARTING SALARY: $40,686.00 annually based upon the qualifications of the successful candidate. Benefits package includes Tuition Assistance Program, participation in the State Teachers Retirement System, health insurance, dental insurance and other University System benfits. RANGE: Up to 10% depending on qualifications
