Braswell, Littlefield, Shirey Make All-America

Littlefield Makes First Team

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Three of the most reliable Lady Blazers were named to All-American teams this week. Marti Littlefield made first team Daktronics All-America. She also made the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-Americans third team. Meanwhile, Andi Braswell was named to the NFCA second team. Alyssa Shirey received third team honors with Littlefield and an honorable mention on the Daktronics All-America list.

The three combined for 53 home runs and 229 runs batted in on the season. Littlefield was the only freshman to make the Daktronics All-America first team. She is also the only player in the nation with more than 100 RBIs and she tied for the lead in home runs with 25.

Braswell was the most consistent hitter for Valdosta State all season. She finished hitting .436, but was as high as second in the nation in batting average. She finished with the most hits on the team (96) and tied with Littlefield for the most doubles (18). Braswell was also a perfect 11 for 11 on stolen bases and struck out a mere 10 times all season.

Shirey was the second biggest hitter on the team, belting 17 homers on the year. She is such a good hitter in the fourth spot that she forced teams to pitch to Littlefield. With 64 RBIs, 13 doubles and 75 hits on the year, Shirey showed her prowess with the bat. She also showed her toughness by leading the team in hits by pitch with 12.

Littlefield and Shirey will return next season to build on their success.
