Golf Seventh at NCAA Regional
VSU shoots four-over 292
FLORENCE, Ala. - Valdosta State shot a four-over 292 to tie for seventh after the first round of the NCAA South/Southeast Golf Super Regional Monday at the par 72, 7,126-yard Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals.
Host North Alabama claimed the first round lead after shooting a seven-under 281 while Lynn was second with a 284 (-3). Barry shot an even-par 284 to stand third followed by West Florida (289 / 1-over) in fourth and Columbus State and Georgia College tied for fifth at 290 (2-over). Nova Southeastern matched the Blazers with a 292 on the day while Barton and Newberry rounded out the top 10 at 293 (5-over).
VSU's Cole Willis shot a two-under 70 to tie for sixth in the first round as Lynn's Chris Goldan claimed the first round lead with a five-under 67. The remaining four Blazers - Wade Holland, Brent Witcher, Chris Smith and Chesley Gunn, all shot a two-over 74 to tie for 43rd.
The tournament continues with a single round of play on Tuesday. Willis leads VSU off at 8:20 a.m. while Witcher will be the last off for the Blazers at 9:00 a.m.
