Witcher Wins First Federal Southeastern Collegiate

Blazers Finish Third

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Nova Southeastern claimed a one-stroke victory on the second hole of a playoff to win the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate at the par-72, 7,127 yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club Tuesday.

The Sharks entered the day trailing Georgia College by three strokes, but shot a three-under 285 on the day to force the playoff. After both teams shot par on the first hole, NSU finished one under on the second hole to claim the victory.

Nova Southeastern and Georgia College, which shot an even par 288 Tuesday, finished the tournament with an eight-under 856 while Valdosta State finished third with an even par 864 after shooting a one-over 289 in the final round.

Florida Southern also shot a 285 on Tuesday to finish fourth with a one-over 865 while Lynn was fifth with a four-over 868. Barry shot an 870 ( 6) to finish sixth followed by Rollins with an 871 ( 7). West Florida finished eighth with an 875 ( 11) and Clayton State ninth with an 877 ( 13) while Florida Tech came home 10th at 880 ( 16). Lander shot an 883 ( 19) to finish 11th and North Alabama was a stroke behind in 11th with an 884 ( 20). Carson-Newman (888 / 24), West Georgia (894 ( 30), Chico State (900 / 36), Delta State (906 / 42) and Eckerd (915 / 51) closed out the field.

The Blazers' Brent Witcher claimed individual medalist honors as he finished the tournament six-under par with a 210. Clayton State's Wade Binfield was a stroke behind in second while Florida Southern's Matt Stauch, Valdosta State's Chad Smith, GCSU's Niclas Johannson, NSU's Greg O'Mahony and Lynn's Patricio Salem tied for third at four-under 212.

The remainder of the Valdosta State squad included Chesley Gunn tying for 32nd with a four-over 220 while Will Repko tied for 54th at 224 ( 8). Cole Willis was 11-over with a 227 to tie for 65th.

The Blazers also had five individuals play in the event, led by Joel Durrance, who tied for 21st with a two-over 218. Nick Joy and Wade Holland tied for 32nd with a four-over 220 while Bobby Dyer tied for 77th at 232 ( 16). Jason Groover rounded out the VSU players with a 244 ( 28) to finish 88th.

The Blazers return to action Monday, March 23 when they begin play in the Bobcat Invitational in Lake Oconee, Ga.
