Beau Justice Named GSC Player of the Year; All-GSC Announced

FULL ALL-GULF SOUTH CONFERENCE RELEASE

VALDOSTA, Ga. -
The No. 14 ranked Valdosta State men's basketball team has produced the Gulf South Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, as Beau Justice was awarded the title in the league's All-GSC announcement on Tuesday.

Justice, a junior out of Peebles, Ohio, ranked among the top two eligible Gulf South Conference scorers during the 2017-18 regular season. The sharpshooting guard currently ranks among the league's top ten in scoring (20.8 points per game, 2nd), field goal percentage (47.9 percent, 8th), free throw percentage (90.1 percent, 2nd), 3-point field goal percentage (43.1 percent, 1st), 3-point field goals per game (3.0, 2nd). On the national level, his aforementioned free throw percentage places him 10th on the Division II leaderboard. His Player of the Year honor succeeds Jeremiah Hill, who landed the award last season in 2016-17.

With Justice's help, the Blazers have produced an incredible 25-3 overall record on the season and an 18-2 record against league opponents. The historic season saw Valdosta State string together their longest single-season winning streak in program history, and Justice became just the third Blazer to ever record over 1,000 points in less than two full seasons, placing him in the company of Tyrone Curnell and all-time scoring leader and Blazer Athletics Hall of Famer Eddie Brown.

Senior KJ James joined the list of honorees for Valdosta State with Second Team All-GSC recognition. James transferred to VSU prior to the start of the current season, and has been a force to be reckoned with. James' aggressive style of play has led him to a spot among the league's top ten rebounders (7.3 per game, 9th). Furthermore, James ranks second in the league and 18th in the country in field goal percentage. His efficiency has led to a 60.4 shooting percentage from the field.

Valdosta State returns to the hardwood on Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. for the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament against the visiting West Georgia Wolves.
